MEA Testing Schedule

March 18, 2019

Dear Parents and Guardians of students in grades 3-5,

The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the upcoming Maine Educational Assessment (MEAs). In order to meet federal guidelines, the MEAs will be administered to all students in Maine in grades 3-8.

In the coming weeks, Maine will administer the eMPowerME, SAT, and MEA Science tests. The testing windows for the assessments are as follows:

eMPowerME (Grades 3-8): March 18-April 12

SAT School Day Administration (Third year High School): April 9

MEA Science (Grades 5, 8): April 22 – May 3

MEA Science (Third year High School): April 1 – April 12

We have developed a testing schedule that we feel best minimizes the disruption to learning.  5th grade students will be taking their assessments during the week of March 25th.  3rd and 4th grade students will be assessed during the week of April 1st.  Science testing for 5th grade will take place after April vacation.

At the Grades 3-5 level, students will take 2 math assessments of approximately 75 minutes each, 2 reading assessments of 80 minutes each, 2 writing and language assessments of 35 minutes each, and one essay of 80 minutes.

Please see the 2019 Testing Schedule for grade level specific information.  Students are not able to stop a test and continue on another day. If you are planning to dismiss your child early on a testing day, please let us know at the beginning of the school day so we can plan accordingly.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

With regards,

Mrs. Thompson
