Parent Survey Regarding Storm Days

Dear Parents,

What a wild week we had last week. I hope that all of our families have emerged from the power outages successfully. As always, if there is any way that we can be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to ask.

I have received several questions about how we will be making up the time lost due to outages, as we have used all 5 of our built in “snow days”. The state will not be automatically waiving the storm days from the 175 student day calendar. While we can request a waiver in the spring, a waiver will only be granted if we can show that we have done all that we can to make up possible time.

Time can be made up by adding additional school days at the end of the year, vacation days, or on Saturdays, or by adding extra time to school days, previously scheduled early-release or late start days in one hour increments. 5 one-hour blocks make up a school day. The only scheduling limitation we have is that we can not add time from 8:25-9:25 on Wednesdays unless RSU1 does as well, due overlaps in transportation.

The faculty has come up with several creative solutions, but before we bring a proposal to the school board, we’d love parent input regarding what you foresee may work for your family, or what ideas you can support. Please complete the survey by 11/14 by clicking the link below or by following the QR code. https://goo.gl/forms/zpdzjh0gUTCjZncA3.

Thank you in advance,

Mrs. Thompson
