School Closure Update – March 20, 2020

March 20, 2020

Dear West Bath Families,

I hope this message finds you all safe and well.

When I posted the dates for school closures due to COVID-19, I stated that we would be closed until March 27th, and then would reevaluate the situation.  With the Governor’s State of Civil Emergency Proclamation, schools are required to remain closed for the length of the proclamation (30 days), at a minimum.  Based on this declaration, current events, and to be consistent with our neighboring districts, the West Bath School will now be closed to students through Sunday, April 26th.  We will once again reevaluate based upon conditions as we approach this date with the hope to have school in session beginning Monday, April 27th

As you know, we have created remote learning opportunities to help to keep students engaged, challenged, and learning throughout the time of school closure. We know that we can’t replace classroom instruction, but we are going to try to keep students connected and invested in their learning and in our community.  While we are going to continue to offer opportunities, please know that we will likely offer more than you can possibly do. Set up a structure and a schedule that works and is productive for your family.  Allow for the wellbeing of your family to be the first priority.

We are offering food service delivery to your house via Bath Bus in the form of school breakfasts and lunches, free to all children under the age of 18. This drop off service will begin on Monday and will take place on Mondays and Thursdays. We will drop off 3 days of breakfast and lunch at a time.  If you have not yet signed up for meals, please sign up here: https://forms.gle/EjePGFGkvUPJbG8JA.  We will plan to continue this service throughout the closure, and families may decide to join on a week by week basis. Families who have already joined will stay enrolled, unless you contact me and opt out.  There are also numerous places in our neighboring communities to access food, and both RSU1 and Brunswick have specifically said that West Bath students are welcome at their sites. I will continue to post lists of resources on our website and our school Facebook page.

I understand that many members of our community are experiencing great hardship during this unprecedented global emergency.  Please reach out to me or to a staff member with any needs or concerns that you may have throughout the building closure. We will find a way to assist you and help get your needs met, either directly or through help and support from community partners. #WeAreCrew

With love and hope,

Emily Thompson
